IS BISHOP CEIRION DEWAR REALLY AN ANGLICAN BISHOP?

An examination of the evidence surrounding Anglican orders, episcopal consecration, and public claims.

Bishop Ceirion H Dewar first came to prominence in July 2024 when he appeared on a stage with Tommy Robinson at the first Unite the Kingdom Rally in London. Sartorially dressed in a purple clerical shirt with pectoral cross, dark trousers and beige jacket, Dewar addressed crowd with a rousing speech.

In February 2026 he made a name for himself by writing an open letter to the King criticising his supposed favouring of Islam and not standing up for the Christian heritage of the United Kingdom. Dewar has an increasing public profile online via social media, and on news-media platforms such as GB News and Talk TV. He has a regular slot on the Mike Graham Show, and is often referred to by Mike Graham as the show’s ‘official bishop.’

But is Bishop Ceirion Dewar really an Anglican bishop?

Dewar has stated in interviews that he and his mother embraced Evangelical Charismatic Christianity when he was aged 14 in around 1992. He claims that he preached his first sermon at the age of 15, and that he was ‘ordained’ on his 19th birthday in 1995 (although into what particular denomination remains unclear, but it was not within the Anglican Church). He claims that he was appointed as a ‘bishop’ when he was aged 28 (again, not within the Anglican Church). He has served in mainly Pentecostal circles, in particular the ‘International Communion of Evangelical Churches’ (ICEC). Dewar has stated that he served as the General Secretary of the ICEC, overseeing a network of some 7000 churches in nine different countries. Dewar has connections with Pentecostal Churches in the ‘word of faith’ movement and the so called ‘prosperity gospel’ in Nigeria, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.

In interviews, Dewar has stated that he felt called to return to Anglicanism in November 2023, and he resigned his position in the ICEC on 19th November 2023. Enquiries made to the Confessing Anglican Church (CAC) have revealed that Dewar was formally received into the CAC when Archbishop Robert Gosselin ordained him to the diaconate and priesthood on the 4th and 5th July 2025 respectively, ‘thereby regularising his clerical standing as a valid Anglican Clerk in Holy Orders within our province.’ As this is such a significant event, it is therefore surprising that Dewar has never made any public mention of it!

Gosselin has also confirmed that ‘The International College of Bishops [of the CAC] has approved [Dewar’s] consecration to the episcopate within the Confessing Anglican Church, and the Province of Reconciliation is presently determining the date and location for that consecration.’ Furthermore, Gosselin states ‘I have directed [Dewar] to use the title “Missionary Bishop” in lieu of “Bishop-Elect” until he is enthroned as Bishop Ordinary upon his consecration.’

Archbishop Gosselin has thereby confirmed that Dewar is not yet a validly consecrated bishop in the CAC, and therefore is not actually an Anglican bishop at all! In a news article posted on the CAC website, it was stated that Dewar was to be sub-conditionally consecrated and enthroned as bishop in a public and ecumenical service in September 2026 (actual date and location never specified), however no such service has yet taken place (at the time of the writing of this article on 7th October 2026).

Dewar presents himself publicly as an Anglican bishop, and has done so since at least 2023. In fact, Dewar has been dressing in Anglican and Catholic episcopal garb since at least 2018 – Latin-style single breasted black cassock with red piping, purple cincture and zuchetta, and pectoral cross. However, he has never disclosed openly the fact that he has never received a valid Anglican consecration in any Anglican denomination.

Conclusion: Cei Dewar IS NOT a validly consecrated Anglican bishop, and his claim to be an Anglican bishop (at the time of the writing of this article) is therefore false.
